About Open Houses

Understand the advantages.  While an open house may seem like an inconvenience, it can provide many advantages including providing sellers with valuable feedback on pricing, property condition and features.  Open houses also serve to generate word of mouth advertising among neighbors that can produce interested buyers and ultimately a faster sale.

Consult your Realtor®. Your Realtor will effectively handle the marketing of your open house including signage, advertising and pamphlets as well as act as a representative - answering any questions and facilitating any offers.

Prepare Your Property.  There are a number of small aesthetic improvements that can make your house more appealing during an open house.  Consider hiring a professional cleaning and landscaping service.  Be sure all clutter is removed.  Lock or remove all valuables – especially jewelry and money (although a Realtor will be present, it’s difficult to watch all visitors all the time).  Your Realtor will review additional simple preparations to help make your open house a success.

Leave the property.  Your Realtor will handle the open house. Without the actual seller present, buyers are more comfortable walking around, stating opinions and asking questions.  When the open house has ended, your Realtor will meet with you to provide feedback and discuss any offers.
